Toastmaster for the evening: Susan Martin

OPENING
Sergeant at Arms, Manuel Glaze, opened the meeting and introduced Rachel Sumner, VP Education, who was filling in for the President for the evening's meeting.

Rachel welcomed everyone to the meeting and shared a message from the District 63 Governor congratulating the Brentwood Evening Toastmasters members for having achieved the 5 Star Award. The five star award requires clubs attain five of the first eight goals required for attaining President's Distinguished Club in 2011.

Rachel distributed Competent Communicator badges to Dasie Schulz and Donna Brown for completing the Competent Communicator manual. She then introduced the Toastmaster for the Evening, Susan Martin.

WORD OF THE DAY

Rachel Sumner introduced the word of the day, Captious, and challenged fellow Toastmasters to use the word throughout the evening.

Captious - intention to entrap or confuse; having an inclination to find fault, especially of a trivial nature; someone who is difficult to please.

HUMOR

Mike Costa shared a humorous anecdote (fictitious as may have been) about Allan getting arrested after running from a bear he encountered in the woods. Apparently it's illegal to run through the woods with a bear behind. ;-)

TABLE TOPICS

Brian Clinch lead the club in Table Topics as Tables Topics Master for the evening, selecting three table topics speakers and challenging them as follows:

If you could ride a hot air balloon over any city in the world, what city wuld you choose and why? - Pam Hoffner

If your hot air balloon needed to make an emergency landing requiring you to live for two years where you landed, and you had a choice between Hawaii and Alaska, where would you land? Autumn Karrigan

You are hiking in the woods in the Smokey mountains when you encounter a family from Germany. They ask about the area. What would you tell them? Allan Daniels
