Within the next 4-6 weeks, the Brentwood Evening Toastmasters club will be electing officers for the upcoming term July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.  This is a fantastic opportunity for members to contribute to the health and growth of the club while developing valuable leadership skills and experiences.  The commitment can be as small as a few hours of additional work per month, or as much as you want to put into (and get out of) it!  Members of ALL experience levels are encouraged to accept a nomination for an officer role.  For more information, read about the officer roles in the handbook (available here -- please note the PDF can be downloaded for free) or simply ask one of the club officers at the next club.  We would be happy to tell you about the roles.

All are welcome to attend a special storytelling training program on Saturday, May 30, 5:00-8:00 pm sponsored by the Deipnosophist Toastmasters.  Expect a very entertaining as well as informative evening featuring several notable speakers demonstrating various types of storytelling.  Although there is no registration fee, this event will be held at the Hermitage House Smorgasbord and the restaurant expects attendees to purchase either supper or a dessert and drink.  Supper is at 5:00 and the program begins at 6:00.  Please RSVP no later than May 25, or request information about the event, by contacting John Patton.  Reply to this post for his contact information.

BET's own Patrick Frazier will be presenting a speech about resume writing for the Career Transitions Support Group on Monday, June 1, at 7:00.  Patrick gave a condensed (12-15 minutes) version of this speech at BET last year, and it was extremely informative and entertaining.  All are welcome to visit the CTSG, which meets at the Brentwood United Methodist Church, to support Patrick.  For directions and contact information visit the CTSG website at http://www.bumc.net/career.

Brentwood Evening Toastmasters is proud to announce the induction of its three newest members.  Following a motion by Russ Vantrease, seconded by Janet Schreibman, the attending club members unanimously voted to admit Ryan Martin, Diana Garcia, and Paul Sabyasashi to Toastmasters.  Congratulations!

We were pleased to have Area Governor Jayne Phillips, DTM visit our club and participate in the evening's agenda as evaluator.  She reminded us that the area-level contests will be held next Saturday, March 7, and the division contests will be held on Tuesday, March 31.  All are welcome to attend and any Toastmasters interested in participating in the Sergeant at Arms, Vote Counter, or other roles are strongly encouraged to contact club leadership for more information.

Finally, the idea was floated (although no formal motion made) that the agenda for our 5th-Tuesday meeting on March 31 be replaced with attending the division-level speech contests, which will be held in Brentwood not far from our usual meeting venue, possibly followed by dinner at a Brentwood-area restaurant.  Look for further discussion via the club website / email and during our upcoming meetings March 10 and 24.
