Toastmaster for the evening – Dasie Schulz
Opening:
Jessica Hernandez opened the meeting and led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. She then turned the gavel over to BET President Manuel Glaze who read the Toastmaster mission, followed by introducing and welcoming our six guests.
Club News:
Since this was the third meeting in January and there were so many prepared speeches, it was decided to eliminate Word of the Day, Humorist, Table Topics and Grammarian/Ah Counter from the night’s agenda. Manuel asked the club for volunteers to fill the vacant spot of Vice President of Public Relations. Mark Bayless expressed his interest. Janet Schreibman then made a motion to elect Mark as VP of PR, which was seconded by Mike Costa. The approval vote was unanimous.
Next, Rachel discussed the upcoming schedule of meetings, including the BET speech contest at the end of February, as well as BET hosting our area contest at the end of March. If you’d like to participate in the speech contest, please let Rachel know. Meanwhile, the officers are encouraging members to bring in their Competent Leadership manual so it can be safely stored in our meeting room for reference/use at each meeting.
